Kay was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, A.E. (Gene) St. Marie, her parents May and Christopher Tomlinson, her daughter Dawn St. Marie and son-in-law Michael Keefe. Left to mourn her passing are her daughters, Judy Keefe, Patty Sloggett (Paul), Shelly Ste Marie and her son, Stephen (Keiko) St. Marie. Kay also leaves her grandchildren, Cassandra and Alexis Keefe, Andrea Sloggett (Ryan Glenn), Aimee Roy (Brendan), Nicolas, James and Thomas St. Marie and great-grandsons, Jack and Sam Glenn.
As a small child Kay emigrated from England. She graduated from Shaw College and worked for large insurance companies while her many beaus went off to war. In June of 1945, the day of Gene’s return from WWII, Kay accepted Gene’s proposal and they married in September. The first of six children arrived the next year. They bought their first house in St Johns parish in The Beach and Kay was busy. Kay began a long career substitute teaching for the Toronto Catholic District School Board and became a favorite of children and adults alike. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a long time member of the CWL of St Johns. Kay enjoyed tennis and bridge and later, badminton with a wonderful group of friends.
Family and friends will be received at McDougall and Brown Funeral Home, 2900 Kingston Road, M1M 1N5, on Friday April 6, from 2-5 PM.
Mass will be held at St. Johns Church, 794 Kingston Rd., Toronto, M4E 1R7, at 10 AM on Saturday April 7. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery.
