Obituary of Kathleen (Wadden) Murphy
We her family sadly wish to announce that our beautiful mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Kathleen (Wadden) Murphy has passed away peacefully on October 15, 2018. She was born in Port Morien, Cape Breton County on May 27, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Tom and Margaret Wadden. She was a wonderful mother, kind, caring and very devoted to her Catholic faith. Mom worked extremely hard in her younger years caring for Dad and her family of eight children, never complaining and was always open to accommodate the neighbourhood kids in the house and making meals stretch for unexpected visitors. She was very generous to the church and community of Port Morien contributing cooking/baking or in a monetary manner for gatherings. She and Dad made many trips to Halifax and they treasured their trips to PEI. Mom loved to knit and in her later years, it became like a career: sweaters, hats, mittens, vests for family members. She worked in Montreal during WWII as an Inspector in an ammunition factory. She often spoke about that experience and how she and Dad were married in Brownsburg, Quebec and he left a few days later for overseas to serve in the war. Mom then came home to Morien to await his return 4 years later. During this time, she worked as a bookkeeper for H. H. Hopkins Ltd. Kathleen is survived by her children, Marguerite (Willie), Vivian (Bob), Tricia (Rick), Karen, Florence (Ron), Bill (Audrey), Joyce (Charles), Kevin (Genevieve). She is also survived by her brother, Pat (Aiko); sisters, Susie, Mary, Vonnie, Margie (Myron); sisters-in-law, Kay and Maureen and many nieces and nephews. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Craig and Sheryl, Chris and Cathy, Lynne and Laura, Ryan, Liam and Caitlin, Annette and Charles, Justin and Jordan; and her great-grandchildren, Emilie and Addison, Sophie and Liam, Paige and Claire, Liam, and Gavin. Besides her husband, William (her true love and soul mate) Kathleen was predeceased by her infant daughter, Annette; her parents; son-in-law, Danny Maddox; her sister, Florence; brothers, Tony, Justin, Clement, and infant Johnnie. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 20 at St. Mary’s Church, Port Morien Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. The interment will be in the parish cemetery followed by a reception in the fire hall. The family would like to thank Dr. Boutilier for her professionalism and care of Mom over the past number of years. We would also like to express our gratitude to all the care-givers who attended to Mom’s personal care. For those who wish, donations may be to St. Mary’s Parish, Port Morien. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.currysfuneralhome.com.
