Kathleen Connie Edna Lucille Abel November 1 1924 March 3 2018 (age 93)

Connie is survived by her only child and daughter, Mary-Ellen Daae, granddaughter Hayley, great-granddaughter Karlee Dawn, and grandson Dallas.
She was predeceased by her husband John Abel in 2010
Connie was born on November 1, 1924 and grew up in Choiceland, Saskatchewan. She joined the Armed Forces at 18 years old and served as a Sergeant until 1946.
She married the love of her life, John (who served in the Air Force), on October 4, 1947. Connie resided in Edmonton with John and her daughter, working for Mike’s Newsstand until 1967 at which time our family moved to New Westminster, British Columbia. Here she worked at the Royal Hotel Smokeshop until her Multiple Sclerosis progressed which forced her to be at home. However, that never stopped her, and she joined the Royal Canadian Legion, volunteered on a regular basis, and traveled to several Legion conventions (province to province) with her husband until 2004, at which time she was admitted to Long Term Care (LTC) at Queen’s Park Hospital in New Westminster, British Columbia.
Connie resided at Queen’s Park until her husband’s passing in 2010. On April 6, 2011 she hopped on the airplane with her daughter to fly to Alberta and was placed in Long Term Care in Coronation until December 21, 2011. She then had a long car ride to Ponoka, Alberta, at which time she was placed at Ponoka General Hospital Long Term Care Auxiliary Wing. Here she loved to play bingo, join in on daily activities, go on field trips with the residents, join in on crafts, and join in on monthly celebrations (favorite ones being St. Patrick’s Day and Halloween).
Prior to ever being placed in LTC, Connie loved her gardening (growing beautiful flowers), loved her bluebirds, loved building a nice home cooked meal, enjoyed baking apple and lemon meringue pies and cinnamon buns, reading astrology books, doing book puzzles, reading Harlequin romance novels, and watching her daily soaps. She was a night owl…so she enjoyed staying up late into the night watching movies.
Her favourite time of year was attending the Senior’s Day at Ponoka Stampede with her daughter. Connie would always say, “Just look at those nice cowboys in their jeans”.
Connie made several trips home to spend with her daughter in Ponoka and enjoyed having lunch or supper (along with rum and Pepsi, and a few cigarettes). She thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Christmas, birthdays, and Mother’s Day with her family.
One very special day in Connie’s life was when she met her great-granddaughter, Karlee, and she smiled from ear to ear; so very proud of her little one.
Connie will be remembered for her contagious smile, her quick wit, her continual laughter, and just having fun, and calling a spade, a spade. She never complained about anything. She was such a wonderful human being, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
