JULIA SOLODKI
January 16, 1923 – February 7, 2018
It is with deep sadness that we announce the gentle passing of Julia, beloved mother of Jeannette (George) Owen, Gloria (Kent) Yaniw, Marion (Brander) Hopkins, and Cindy (Gary) Ordog, and proud grandmother (Baba) of Jennifer (Sean), Lindsay (Chris), Whitney (Peter), Hilary (Corey), Nicholas (Susan), Sam (Jane), Simon (Jen), Matthew (Joss), Cameron, Erika (Sam), Teddie, CJ, and Mickey, and loving great-grandmother of 9. Julia’s legacy and spirit will live forever in the hearts of her family.
Julia is also survived by her sister, Cecilia, and was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Joseph, her sister Marika, and brothers Mike and John.
Hard-working, generous, fun-loving, independent, feisty, energetic Julia, along with husband Joe, made a good life for herself in Canada, and above all, for her four daughters. Education was highly valued and all four daughters earned education degrees from UBC. Julia’s intellect was sharp until the end.
Julia loved gardening, road trips, ferry trips to the Island, her weekly bingo and whist games, jigsaw puzzles, and cooking for her family. Above all, Julia loved all social and family occasions. Her contribution, a roaster full of perogies, was always the most coveted.
Thank you to the caring workers of We Care and St. Elizabeth who ensured that Mom could remain in her home until the end of January, to the paramedics and ambulance drivers who gently tended to Mom, and to the compassionate staff of the ER and of Ward 3 North of Ridge Meadows Hospital.
A service for Julia will be held at one o’clock on Friday, February 23, at Burnett Fellowship Church, 20639 – 123rd Avenue, Maple Ridge. Mom would be pleased if you wore bright colours.
No flowers please, but donations may be made in Julia’s name to the Canadian Red Cross, Aids to Independent Living Program, 3400 Lake City Way, Burnaby, BC V5A 4Y2 or to the Maple Ridge Hospital Foundation
