Joyce McKay
1936-2018
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joyce Leona
(Martell) McKay announce her passing on Friday, December 28, 2018 at
the Oromocto Public Hospital. Joyce passed just 31 days
after the recent death of her beloved husband Robert.
Born in Glace Bay, NS, she was the only child of the late
Tena Vivian (Nee: Stewart) (Martell) Kelly and devoted wife of 62
years to the late Robert McKay. As a military family, Joyce
accompanied her husband on tours of duty at Camp Aldershot in Nova
Scotia, Germany and at Camp Gagetown. She attended the
Provincial Teachers College and Dalhousie University in Nova
Scotia. Joyce then went on to teach school in Nova Scotia
and Oromocto School District #17. It was there that she
taught at Lincoln Elementary School and Hubbard Avenue
School. Joyce was an avid reader and she loved to sew, knit
and crochet. Above all else, she cherished her time spent
with her children and grandchildren. She will be forever
loved and always remembered.
Joyce is survived by her daughter Heather Delaney of New
Maryland, NB and her children Bradley of Quispamsis, NB, Stacey of
Calgary, AB, and Coady of New Maryland, NB; her son Dr. Robert McKay
of PE and his children Christopher and Katie; her brother-in-law John
McKay (Frankie) of Oromocto, NB and her aunt Ada Stewart of
Campbellford, ON.
In addition to her mother Tena and husband Robert, Joyce was
predeceased by her grandparents Robert and Winifred Stewart, uncle Roy
Stewart and her sister-in-law Margaret McCuish and her husband
Don.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. A
private service will be held. Donations in Joyce’s memory
can be made to the CNIB or to the charity of the donor’s
choice. Online condolences may be made at www.oromoctofh.com
