Also known as Moe or Doc, a life time resident of Fort Saskatchewan passed away quietly surrounded by family on Nov 24, 2018. He was born Sept 18,1925, raised in the Fort Saskatchewan area, never having moved more than 10 kms. from where he was born. Maurice was an avid sports fan playing baseball as a right fielder and hockey as a goalie. He turned down an opportunity to try out for the NHL to complete his university education. In 1949, he graduated from Ontario Veterinary College, in Guelph. He started his first job in veterinary practice with Dr. Bacon the first vet in town. Dad was in private practice until 1974 having owned the Fort Saskatchewan Veterinary Clinic until he joined Agriculture Canada working various positions. He spearheaded the redevelopment of the quarantine station for the western Canada region at the Edmonton International Airport.
Upon returning from Guelph, Maurice married his sweetheart Henriette Belland on July 5, 1951. Maurice and Henriette never failed to be the last couple on the dance floor winning the longest married couple dance competition at every wedding they attended. He enjoyed 67 years married to the love of his life. His passion was to continue enjoying sports through watching all his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids play sports of any kind but especially hockey. He taught all his kids to fish, to sail, to waterski and spent many hours puttering at their family cottage owned at Moose Lake since 1962.
Maurice retired at the age of 66 enjoying a lengthy retirement which included an extended trip travelling across Canada, going south in the winters, playing crib and bridge and spending countless hours in hockey rinks. He became an expert wine maker and all the family enjoyed many hours sitting together with friends or family drinking his wine and swapping stories. The best vintage he ever made was labelled last Tuesday.
Maurice is survived by his brother Tony, his loving wife Henriette of 67 years, his son Marc (Barbara) and their children Kristie Hedges(James), Nathan (Brittney), Nicholas (Caiti), Tyrel; his son Guy (Terry Gagne) and his children Kyle (Nadia du Toit), Lise Danyluk (George); his daughter Louise Lamoureux and her children Erica Wilson (Dave), Katie Cochet (Brad), Holly Oberst (Paul Orychock); his daughter Jocelyne Lamoureux (Glen Marko) and her children Spencer King , Vincent King (Simone); and his son Pierre (Linda) and their children Phillipe ((Kellie), Jacques (Ashley), Pierre Paul (Randi), Mario (Molly), Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson (Brent) Monique Lamoureux-Morando (Anthony ). His family tree grew to 20 great grandchildren and soon to be 2 more.
Maurice was predeceased by his parents Hector and Elvine Lamoureux, brothers Simon and Robert and grandchildren Louis, Peter and Baby Lammy. Maurice was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, veterinarian, a story teller, sportsman and so much more. He will be missed and forever loved by everyone who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Maurice’s honour may be directed to Second Chance Animal Rescue Society’s website www.scarscare.ca. A Memorial Service for Dr Maurice Lamoureux will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of The Angels Catholic Church, 10004 – 101 Street, Fort Saskatchewan with Inurnment to follow at the Lamoureux Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following the Inurnment at the Pioneer House- 10005 100 Avenue, Fort Saskatchewan at 1:30.
