Joseph Gerard (Joe) Bill
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joe Bill at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the age of 92. Joe was born in Vancouver, BC on May 23, 1925 to William and Jessie Bill. He moved with his family to Red Deer in 1933. He joined the military in 1942 and fought with the Calgary Highlanders in WWII, after being wounded in France he returned in 1944. He was awarded numerous medals for his service including the Legion of Honour from France. Upon his return to Canada he met his loving wife Elaine in Red Deer and they were married August 8, 1953. They have two children Bruce and Brenda. Joe worked in the oil industry for many years making life-long friends and starting his own business, Red Deer Oilfield Construction. Joe loved golf and played in the Oilmen’s Golf Tournament for over 50 years. Upon his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife throughout the US, Europe, Australia and Hong Kong. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Elaine; his son Bruce (Brenda), daughter Brenda (Tony); grandchildren Stephanie (Sean), Megan, Nathan (Apryl); great-grandchildren Kaden, Ella, Grayson and Logan; a sister-in-law Verna Bill; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents William and Jessie; four brothers: Charlie, John, Ted and Dick; five sisters: Mary, Gwen, Elsie, Helen and Marjorie.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at Eventide Funeral Home, 4820 – 45 Street, Red Deer, on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Foundation.
