OBITUARY
Jonel Besu
December 5, 1935 – October 26, 2018
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Kitchener, Ontario on October 26, 2018 at the age of 82.
Beloved husband of 57 years to Zagorka Besu, loving father of Danica Besu Wolkow (Robert) and Daniel-Dorin Besu (Patricia) and special “Mošu” to Alexander, Sam, Aidan and Adrian. Jonel was born on December 5, 1935 in Glogonj, Yugoslavia. On January 29, 1961 he married the love of his life Zagorka (nee Dimitrijevic) in Pancevo, Yugoslavia, where he worked in textile sales. Wanting a better economic future for his family, Jonel immigrated to Canada on September 24, 1966, ahead of his wife and child Danica, who followed him on December 2, 1966. They quickly established a new life in Kitchener, Ontario, where he spent most of his working life as a welder for Budd Automotive and eight years later his second child Daniel was born. Jonel had a passion for soccer, which he shared with the KW community as a coach for KW Balkan, Banat and Kitchener Minor Soccer. He was always an avid and vocal fan who never shied away from sharing his opinions while watching many games locally in the KDSL and many more games on television following his favourite teams—especially Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Beograd). Jonel embraced the sport of hockey as a fan of the Kitchener Rangers and the Montreal Canadiens. He also loved fishing and the outdoors, enjoying many years at his trailer on Arran Lake, where he regularly brought home the “catch of the day” for his wife to prepare for dinner. Special thanks to Dr. Barrett and Nurse Shelley for their care and compassion over the last year. Also a special thank you to the homecare nurses who shared their kindness and understanding with every visit and to the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital. Jonel’s family will receive relatives and friends at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 3 – 5 and 7 – 9 p.m. Cremation will follow.
