Obituary of John Gray
Gray, John Dundas, Smith’s Cove, passed away peacefully at home December 13, 2018. He was the son of the late Howard & Reta Gray, Toronto. John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy (Sulis); daughters, Laurie (Andre, predeceased) Gagnon, Coldbrook, Margaret Gray (Tony Nadeau) Digby, Freda (Ken) Bond, Manitowaning, Ontario; son, John, Smith’s Cove; grandchildren, Phillip (Eva), Caithlin (Rolena), and Victoria (Rebecca) Gagnon, Kyle (Chanelle), Emily (Bryce) and Erica Bond; great granddaughter, Thera Gagnon; sister, Margaret (William) Cochrane, Queenston, Ontario and will be missed by nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews.
John was the owner/operator of Digby County Ambulance Service for several years, school bus driver, Line Run Supervisor for CanAr Coach Lines, Toronto for 12 years. A member/Trustee of Smith’s Cove Baptist Church, Past President and Deputy Zone Commander of Royal Canadian Legion BR# 133, Clementsport, a life member and one of the original founders of the Smith’s Cove Fire Dept., serving also as past Chief and Secretary, past Ref-in Chief Digby Minor Hockey and assistant coach of the championship Fairway Insurance Pee-Wee team. In later years John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great granddaughter.
A special thanks to Dr. James C. King, Kentville, VON, Home Care and Digby Pharma Choice for their compassion and care.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Donations may be made to the Smith’s Cove Baptist Church, Smith’s Cove Historical Society or Smith’s Cove Fire Department.
