Obituary Overview
Forever Loved & Remembered
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John William Chapman on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Sackville Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Aulac NB on Dec 13, 1940, he was the eldest son of Claude and Doris (Goodwin) Chapman. John served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 30 years. After retiring he was an active member of the Port Elgin Rotary Club, which he supported for many years. He won the Paul Harris Fellowship Award in 2009.
John treasured his “girls” Molly and Wikka, and he loved his red 2002 Dodge Ram Truck. He also enjoyed camping as well as hunting.
He will be sadly missed his wife of 37 years Helen (Goodwin) of Baie Verte, son, Michael (Kim) Chapman of Trenton ON, daughter Cheryl (Louis) Grise of Edmonton AB, 2 granddaughters, Cathleen Chapman and Shelby Grise, and 2 grandsons, Spencer Grise and Curtis Chapman. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Also surviving are 2 brothers, Allison (Marsha), and
James (Gail), both of Baie Verte NB and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents John was predeceased his foster brother Ken Butler.
In keeping with John’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside interment will be held at a later date and a small private celebration of John’s life will be held for invited family and friends on Saturday November 3, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00pm at Campbell’s Funeral Home.
Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Port Elgin Rotary Club.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Stewart, the nurses and staff of the Sackville Hospital involved in John’s care, also extra mural services, for their support and encouragement. To our family friends and neighbours that supported us to the end we will be forever grateful.
Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St, Amherst, 902-667-9906. Online condolences and sharing of memories can be forwarded to the family via www.campbellsamherst.ca or by visiting the funeral home Facebook page.
