John Scribilo 2018

OBITUARY
John Scribilo
January 17, 1926 – November 25, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Grandpa & Great Grandpa, John Scribilo.
John is survived by his Son and Daughter-in-law, Bill and Michelle, grandchildren, Samantha and Kelsey (Mark) and Daughter Debbie Wallin, grandchildren Dani (Brice) and Mitch (Crystal) and Great Granddaughter Aria.
John was predeceased by his Wife, and love of his life, Alice Scribilo (nee Rogers). They had 56 years together at the time of her passing. Dad missed her everyday.
John lived a long life of many proud moments and accomplishments. John was born in Norman and lived in Kenora his entire life. Dad grew up in a large family with 10 brothers and sisters. Dad was the last survivor but leaves many nieces and nephews.
Dad always believed that hard work never killed anyone and lived that life until the end. He was a proud and independent man who truly believed his role in life was to provide for his family which he did like no other. No challenge was too big for John and Alice. Their labour of love including building their family home, their camp on Trout Lake and rental homes to provide for his family. In addition to this he worked 42 years at the local paper mill and on his retirement in 1986 he was Super Intendant of the Wood Room. We were always amazed at how many people we met that remember working under him at the Wood Room. He left an impression on all.
In retirement he and Alice spent 24 years at their retirement home on Trout Lake. But even in retirement Dad couldn’t sit still. He fished, gardened, hunted, picked berries, built a guest cottage, and socialized with his many lake friends.
Dad always thought if you can do it yourself you should! Growing up we remember the home enterprise that included wine making, he had his own “still” in the basement that in his words made the best “Hooch” in town, butchering wild game and making garlic sausage, putting up preserves for the long winters, heating his home with wood heat (wood generously provide by the paper mill and George Lyons), enough walleye in the freezer to make it until the season opened again in the spring. Some thought him to be frugal man, a badge he wore with honour, but to his family he was the most generous man we knew.
In 2009 Mom and Dad took an apartment in the Gardener Block for the winter months. Dad being the social butterfly, made many friends and he came to enjoy his time there. He would not miss coffee time at 2 and 7. He even came to love Bingo every Tuesday Night. He continued to spend his summers at Trout Lake including this summer.
Dad lived his life to the fullest and was independent to the end. He agreed with the words “I would rather wear out than rust out” And that is just what he did.
Dad, you will be greatly missed but we know that you are with Mom, “the love of your life”. You will live on in each of us. You were one of the great ones.
