On Saturday, June 9, 2018 John passed away peacefully, in the arms of his son, at his home in Oro-Medonte after a short battle with cancer. John was husband to Lynda (Roach), and older brother to Bonnie Jean Steele of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He was the amazing father to his six children Rebecca (Steve Gunson), Veronica, Joy (Mark King), Alison, Luke and Chris. Cherished grandfather to his elven grandchildren Mariah, Taylor, Scarlett, Faith, Adaora, Makenna, Liam, Adelyn, Hudson, Victoria and Landen.Dad was born on March 10, 1946 in Morristown, New Jersey to Elizabeth (Tanger) and John Hilton. At a young age, his mother remarried August Greiner and soon after his sister was born. He attended Bordentown Military College where he excelled at swimming and basketball, and then Ithaca University before embarking on his life-long career in sales. He drove stock cars at Wall Stadium until he met his wife and they settled in Elmvale where they raised their six children; family road trips to New Jersey will remain as treasured memories. John had a varied and fulfilling life for 72 years; he spent the last ten years in Hawkestone where he continues to share his American roots with all those who drive by his iconic baseball diamond. He is a master storyteller and knows almost every forest in the area; his children will never admire an oak tree, black ash or sugar maple without remembering his passion for the woods. Although neuroendocrine cancer exhausted his body and weakened him physically, it was no match for dad’s memorable smile, witty sense of humor and broad outlook on life which he kept alive and well until the very end. A service to honour our beloved father will be held on June 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS chapel in Midland, 1573 Golf Link Road. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for your prayers and random acts of kindness.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of John Sandy Greiner March 10 1946 June 9 2018 (age 72).source
