John Carmen “Rip” Coll of Morpeth passed away at home on Thursday December 20, 2018 at the age of 85 years. He was the last surviving member of his family, having been predeceased by his parents Carmen & Bertha (McMillan) Coll and by his sisters Carole Johnston, Donna & Doug Tiffin and Shirley Tompkins. He is survived by his brother-in-law Bob Johnston of Ridgetown.
John was a long time employee of Union Gas where he worked on pipelines. On April 9, 1960 he married the love of his life Betty (Laing) and began a journey that would span over 58 years. Together they raised three children who they were extremely proud of; Darren Coll & Artis of Chatham, Deanne Glassford & Kevin Vince of Chatham and Kristina Coll of Morpeth. They were also blessed with their grandchildren Holly & Eric Jamieson, Christopher Glassford & Amber, Amber & Sean Vanderiviere, Ashley Glassford, Laura & Geoffrey Vince and to make a good life even better, they have twelve great-grandchildren. To John there was nothing better than to come home at the end of a long day and be surrounded by the people who loved him the most.
In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. On Saturday December 29, 2018 family and friends are invited to gather at 1:30 in the Morpeth Cemetery for a graveside service which will be followed by a reception at the Morpeth Hall.
Friends wishing to remember John with a memorial donation are asked to consider the Diabetes Association or the Chron’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada.
