John “Jack” Wesley Metcalfe

METCALFE, John Wesley “Jack” – age 68, of Aylesford, Kings Co., passed away suddenly on Monday, January 8, 2018, at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on September 17, 1949, in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), Ontario, he was a son of the late John and Ellen (Koreen) Metcalfe (Salmon Arm, B.C.). Jack served 31 years in the Canadian Armed Forces with postings in Quebec, Shearwater, Greenwood and Baden Baden, Germany. He also served for 10 years in the Canadian Coast Guard with several trips to the Arctic and most recently he owned and operated Jack’s Taxi. Jack loved spending time with his family and friends and meeting all kinds of new people in the taxi. He had a huge heart and cared deeply for those around him. Jack will be sadly missed by his wife, Joanne (Speelman) Metcalfe; daughters, Nichole, Aylesford; Melissa, New Minas; siblings, Jim (Barb) The Pas, Man.; Judy Chouinard, Salmon Arm, B.C.; Barb (Paul) Griffith, Cold Lake, Alta.; Hugh (Pauline), Enderby, B.C.; Terry (Melody), Innisfail, Alta.; Cheryl (Bruce) Fry, Revelstoke, B.C.; Bobbi (Don) Novakowski, High River, Alta.; father and mother in-law, Jan and Reinie Speelman, Aylesford; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his sister, Elaine in childhood, brothers, Bill and Denis. There will be a visitation held 7-9 p.m., Thursday, January 11, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448, from where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 12, with Pastor Patrick Gilbert officiating.
