John “Jack” Frederick Patterson
John “Jack” Frederick Patterson was born June 8th, 1925 and raised in Toronto, ON and was the eldest of five siblings. Following his service in the Air Force in WW11, Jack attended The University of Toronto where he met his wife Mary (Caden) and in 1950 earned his Degree in Modern Languages and Literatures. He taught high school in Kitchener until 1972 when he accepted a position at St. Thomas University in Fredericton where he taught French and Spanish until his retirement.
Jack was a very humble, gracious and generous man who’s life was filled with adventure and service to others. Along with his passion for sailing, nature, animals, education, music, theatre, Christianity, swimming, singing, painting and reading; Jack enjoyed offering service to others through his volunteer work tutoring, translating, serving lunch at the Trinity lunch program, mission work in Mexico, and at the youth Choir Camp in Rothesay. He was an exceptionally loving and attentive husband to his wife Mary of 66 years and together they shared a passion for travelling. They enjoyed many years wintering in their second home in Menton, France, where hiking, touring and enjoying time with friends and their church family at St. John the Evangelist Church were a significant part of their lives.
Surviving in addition to his wife Mary, are son George of Kitchner, Ont, brothers; Alan and Frederick (Mary) of Toronto; grandsons, Sean Patterson (Candace), Ryan Patterson (Morgan); daughter in law Christine Chisholm (Peter Logan). Jack has 4 great grandchildren; Nicholas, Maddyx, Nathan and Maycie as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jack is pre-deceased by son; Michael Frederick Patterson; sisters, Alice Canning and Betty Crocker.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave Saint John NB, E2M 2L3. 506-634-1701. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 23rd at Trinity Anglican Church from 1 PM – 3 PM with a funeral service to follow at 3 PM in the chapel. A reception will take place immediately after in the Bennett Room. Donations to Trinity Steeple Fund in Jack’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
Jack was a true gentleman and his witty and gracious nature will remain in our memories always.
