It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Gilbert on January 7th, 2018 at the Niagara Health System, St. Catharines Site at the age of 79. Beloved husband of the late Lynda Gilbert (1999). Dear friend of Vicky Ryan. Loving father of Wendy (Pierre), Terri (Daniel), Robin and Melissa (Shawn). Brother of Roland (Linda), Jerry (Francine), Camille (Bonnie), Robert, Roger (Terry), Marie and Monique and brother-in-law of Rose Gilbert. Cherished grandpa of Grant, Jennifer, Noah, Reanna, Jordan and Ethan. Predeceased by his parents to Harmidas and Alfreda (nee Labbe), his brother Henry, Louie (Cecile).
John was born in St. Camille de Bellechasse, Quebec and was a millwright at Domtar for many years. He was a founding member of Rose City Snow Seekers.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, 827 East Main Street, Welland on Tuesday, January 9th, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society will be appreciated by the family. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the 3B Oncology nurses of St. Catharines Hospital.
