Joan Wittchen March 31st 2018

After a remarkable and full life, Alice (Joan) Wittchen passed away peacefully minutes before her 89th birthday at the Mayfair Care Center in Calgary with her loving children, Ed and Judy, nearby. Born in Trochu Alberta, only a very few ever dared to call her Alice.
Joan was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Walter, in 2013. She is survived by her children Ed (Vera) and Judy (Brian), granddaughters Tara (Jon), Jody (Nyles) and Brittany (Andrew), great-grandchildren Aurora, Erik and Ryan, brother-in-law Johnny (Laura), sister-in-law Elsa, sister-in-law Ev, and many nieces, nephews and other relations.
Nothing was more important to Joan than family. She had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as Great.
Joan will be missed by all who were the beneficiaries of her baking over the years as she always had fresh baking out when friends or family came over and especially when her precious grandchildren were there.
For the great care provided to our Mother, we would like to thank the staff at Mayfair Care Centre, especially the care givers on the Rideau Unit and in particular, JerryLyn for her care and advice and Raquel Feliciano, Mom’s companion and now our friend.
A memorial celebration of Joan’s life will be held in Calgary on Saturday May 12 at 11AM at Emmanuel Community Church 3003 28 St SE, Pastor Horst officiating, luncheon to follow. Please wear casual, colourful spring attire. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary.
