Obituary for Joachim “Joe” Heinrich Ernest Henze
HENZE
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts we say goodbye to a wonderful and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Joe Henze. Joe was born in Kiel, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1952. After working several jobs in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, Joe settled in Robb where he started his lifelong career as a hotel manager. He moved to Kinuso in 1961 and in 1965 he settled in Sundre running the Sundre Hotel until 2003. His contributions to the community he loved is long and varied; from being involved with the Chamber of Commerce, volunteer firefighter, charter member of the Lion’s Club, Town Counsellor as well as numerous service boards and organizations. When Joe had a few free minutes, you would find him at his favorite fishing hole catching more fish for his smoker. Joe will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his children Erwin of Claresholm, Kevin of Sydney, NS, Lynn (Tiffany) of Didsbury; Kathleen (Shane) of Airdrie; stepson William of Sherwood Park, AB; grandchildren Shelley (Alan) Jeff (Daniel), Garrett, Justin, Megan (Kyle), Samantha (Levi), Katelyn (Kristian); step-granddaughter Teal; great-grandchildren Josephine, Abigail, Oliver. He was predeceased by his loving wife Karen and his parents. A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held on March 3, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #223, Sundre.
