Jeannie Philomène Christie
1963-2018
Despite the excellent care given to Jeannie on 4NW, 4NE and
the ICU, Jeannie passed away at the age of 55 on Family Day, Monday,
February 19, 2018 at 6:00 AM on 4NE of the Dr. Everett Chalmers
Hospital in Fredericton, NB. She fought a long battle with diabetes
and fatty liver syndrome, complicated by kidney
failure.
She was born in Iserlohn, Germany on January 15, 1963 and
grew up in Oromocto where her father was stationed in the
military.
Jeannie is survived by her husband of 21 years, R Joe
Christie (Joey); father Don Cormier Sr.; brother Donnie Cormier Jr. as
well as 16 nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, various
aunts, uncles and cousins throughout North America. Jeannie was
predeceased by her mother Edna (LeBlanc) Cormier and her in-laws Fred
L. And Frances Christie of Oak Hill, NB.
Jeannie graduated from Oromocto High School (1980), St.
Thomas University (BA’ 84 and Bed’ 85) and later
while teaching full time, earned a Med at UNB. Jeannie taught in Minto
for nine years at the elementary / Jr High level from whence she had
many happy experiences and made many lifelong friends. Due to family
illness, she then transferred to Gesner Street Elementary School in
Oromocto from which she retired many years later. Jeannie had an
infectious laugh and loved her students. She taught as long as she
could until health issues derailed her career. Throughout her life,
she suffered from various complications related to the Agent Orange
used at the nearby CFB Gagetown in her childhood years.
There will be no visitation, but her ashes will be present at
a memorial service at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church (25
Loisville St., Oromocto, NB) on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 2:00 PM
with Fr. Paul Bebodu officiating. A reception will follow in the
church hall. Donations in Jeannie’s memory can be made to
the Kidney Foundation of Canada or to the charity of the
donor’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Oromocto
Funeral Home (108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto).
