Jean Marie Hemming
Hemming, Jean Marie of Porters Lake, formerly of Dartmouth.
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Jean Marie Hemming announce her passing on December 13, 2018 at the Dartmouth General Hospital with loved ones at her side. Born in Dartmouth, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Anne Sutherland. After graduating from Business School, Jean worked for London Life Insurance Company in Halifax until starting her family and becoming a stay-at-home mom. She worked as a volunteer for various charities over the years as well as at Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home.
She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who loved nothing better than to have all of her family over to her property in Porters Lake. She loved to make favourite baked goods to bring to family gatherings.
Jean is survived by daughters Pam (Leonard) Fiander, Porters Lake and Lesley Hemming, Lower Sackville; her grandchildren who brought her great joy, Mike (Jenna) Fiander, Kelly (Phil) Joudrey, Brian Fiander, Hayley Atkinson and Chris Atkinson; great grandchildren Molly and Ben Joudrey whom she adored and who adored her in return. She is also survived by her sister Leona Claes, Dartmouth, brother Lewis (Marty) Sutherland, Calgary, AB and many nieces and nephews, She will also be sorely missed by her little buddy and constant companion Casey.
Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by brothers Harold, Gerald, Eric, Everett and James.
Cremation has taken place, Funeral will be held at Atlantic Funeral Home 771 Main Street, Dartmouth on Saturday December 29th at 1:00 PM with reception to follow. Private interment will be held at a later date. We would like to thank Dr. Matthew Watson and the nurses on 3 East Dartmouth General Hospital, especially Janice, Heather and Linda for their compassion and excellent care at this most difficult time.
