Jean Margaret Eakins
1930-2018
Peacefully in the late evening of October 30, 2018, Jean
Eakins released her grip upon a life well lived and went to be with
her beloved friends and family in Heaven.
Jean was delivered just a wee bit early into the hands of a midwife in
Bay de Verde, Newfoundland on October 5, 1930, her father’s first
Anglican parish in North America. A lifelong Anglican, Jean found
comfort in the traditions of the Church. Her family soon relocated to
Montreal where Jean grew up. A student at Trafalgar School
for Girls, Jean went on to McGill to earn her Arts degree and she
formed a lifelong friendship with her dear friends Mary, Marjorie and
Elizabeth.
Jean was close with her sister
Sheila and adored her nieces and nephews in Holland. Her marriage to
Peter Eakins in 1962, heralded the arrival of her own son
Tommy and daughter Kathy in addition to caring for step-daughter
Nancy.
Jean accompanied Peter on a variety of
geological adventures. Summers spent in Abitibi in the 60s and 70s
yielded many happy memories. Jean and Peter were close to
Peter’s brother David and wife Anna Neville who lived in
Vermont and the children enjoyed many happy memories with their cousin
Jennifer.
Jean was known for her generosity
and loyalty. A keen parent volunteer, Jean was active in her
children’s lives. Her last job was her most favourite – secretary at
Massey Vanier Regional High School in Cowansville Quebec. Jean was
well loved and a fierce defender of her “kids”. Jean’s
greatest joy in her later years was found in her grandson Sebastian
and her daughter Kathy.
Jean was predeceased
by her parents the Reverend Frederick Joseph (Paddy) and
Etta Sinnamon, her husband Dr. Peter Eakins and beloved son Tommy. She
is survived by her daughter Kathy and grandson Sebastian.
Our family is grateful for the love and care provided by
the staff at Shannex Brunswick Hall. Jean enjoyed a delightful
relationship with Dr. Ann Collins and Joanne; she also cherished Maria
and Heather from Mental Health and her “dear” Dr.
Addleman.
Visitation is from 4:00 to 8:00 PM
Sunday, November 4, 2018 at McAdam’s Funeral Home. Funeral
services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, November 5, 2018 at Christ Church
Cathedral, Fredericton. The Very Rev. Geoffrey Hall will officiate
with The Rev. Wandlyn Snelgrove assisting. Interment will
take place at a later date in the Mystic Cemetery,
St-Ignace-de-Stanbridge, Quebec. Donations to Greyhound Pets
of Atlantic Canada, 343 West Petpeswick Road, Musquodoboit Harbour,
