On Thursday, November 29, 2018 Jean Anna (nee Hackett) Miller, born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully with family at her side at the age of 97 years.
She was predeceased by her parents John W and Raty G Hackett and her beloved husband of 66 years, Jerry. Cherished mother to daughter Anne Miller Ward, Mathews, Alabama and son Jerry (Linda) Miller, Stony Plain, AB. Loving grandmother to 8 grandchildren, Buddy (Alison) Boyle, Northport, Alabama; Danny Boyle, Montgomery, Alabama; Jared Seabury, Pensacola, Florida; Jason (Christine) Miller Hartman, Sherwood Park, AB; Miranda Miller Hartman (Chad) Stewart , Sherwood Park, AB; Melinda (Adam) Kepper, Stony Plain, AB; Suzanne (Shane) Young, Spruce Grove, AB; and Daniel Miller, Spruce Grove, AB. Devoted great-grandmother to 9 great-grandchildren Bliss Boyle, Hana and Josephine Miller Hartman, Parker and Tristan Stewart, Lucas and Alexis Kepper, Lucina Young and Kai Miller. Jean was very proud of all her family.
Jean joined the RCAF-WD (Women’s Division) during World War II, and was a student at the wireless school in Montreal where Jean and Jerry met. Jean was in the service for almost a year when she took an honorary discharge to care for her ailing mother. For numerous years of Jerry being stationed throughout the world Jean took her important role of Air Force wife and mother to heart. After Jerry retired from the Air Force, Jean and Jerry returned to Edmonton, where they resided on 139th Street until moving to the Citadel Care Centre in St. Albert in 2006. Jean was a member of the Legion Branch 215 for over 50 years where she contributed her time by selling poppies, baking and selling for their bake sales and attending teas. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, knitting, sewing, crocheting and watching tv. Jean loved cats and through the years she loved to have a furry friend on her lap. She was loyal to her friends and family. Known as Jean, the ol’ dragon, Mummy, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, she will be sadly missed and forever cherished.
In accordance with hers wishes, she was cremated and her remains will be interred in the Edmonton Mausoleum. A private family celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2018.
