James Seagrave 19302018

James Seagrave
1930-2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
James Seagrave, resident of Governor Hall, Parkland Shannex in
Fredericton. James quietly passed away July 17, 2018 at the Doctor
Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton surrounded by loved
ones.
Born June 9th, 1930 in Ville Emard,
Montreal Quebec he was a proud francophone Canadian.
James is survived by his three children: Sean (Sherri)
Seagrave, Meaghan Seagrave (John MacDermid) and Hilary (Stephen) Ray,
five grandchildren: Brandan Seagrave, Claire Ray, Alexander Ray,
Theodore Ray and Margaret Ray and his three younger sisters, Kathleen
Berardelli, Charlotte Byrne and Peggy (Victor) Fournier, all of
Montreal. He is predeceased by his wife, Claire (Smith)
Seagrave (1994), and brother, John Seagrave (Calgary).
James’ story was as colourful as his character. He
was lucky to visit every corner of this great country and witness the
cultural diversity it displayed coast to coast. He married his
sweetheart, Claire (Smith) on December 31, 1960, in Winnipeg,
MB. He worked in a number of industries across Canada
including public relations and the federal civil service where he
spent 25 years with HRDC before retiring in 1993. He was a keen bowler
(likely the only one with size 15 shoes), fine curler and avid
volunteer for numerous charitable organizations throughout New
Brunswick.
Until recent years, James would be seen shopping at the Co-op
almost daily where he would often buy far too many boxes of
chocolates, only to leave them with the doctor, the dentist, the
pharmacist, the barber and many others. Beyond treating people with
chocolates, he loved to treat his children and grandchildren to
breakfast at the Coffee Mill. A tradition that will continue in his
absence. He loved making small talk with staff and was a constant
fountain of gossip in any social circle.
James asked that there not be a funeral or memorial service.
He preferred to leave this earth as he entered it, without ceremony.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to your
charity of choice.
James’ family would like to thank the staff at the
Fredericton Parkland Shannex, Dr. Varty, Dr. Cruz and the nursing
staff of the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital.
