Obituary for
James Nicol Carnegie
Carnegie, James:
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved James Nicol Carnegie on Sunday, September 2, 2018 in his 73rd year. Jim passed away due to complications from heart surgery, surrounded by his beloved wife Joyce (nee Donnelly) of nearly 40 years, their three children, Andrew of Peterborough, Amy of Ottawa and Adam with wife Jennifer and grandson Ellis of Victoria B.C. Jim is survived by his mother Helen Carnegie, his brother Richard and wife Carol Ann and his sister Susan Carnegie. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by many extended family members as well as many friends and colleagues who knew him.
Jim was born in Stratford and received a Bachelor’s Degree at McMaster University in Mechanical Engineering in 1968. He was a proud member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario since 1971. He worked as a project manager for Canadian Standards Association (CSA) for nearly 20 years in Toronto before moving on to Trylon TSF in Elmira. Then, most recently, Jim worked for REEP Green Solutions in Kitchener as a Certified Energy Advisor.
A resident of Doon (Kitchener) for 40 years, Jim loved living on the banks of the Grand River. He loved nature, especially observing wildlife, taking long walks, staying at the cottage, canoeing, fishing and caring for his garden. The simple pleasures in life brought him much joy, but none so much as spending time with his children. He enjoyed reading about history, Shakespeare, and stories by James Joyce. As well, Jim had a passion for word play. Crosswords helped keep his mind sharp. He also had an impeccable taste in music.
With warm hearts, the family would like to thank the amazing staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener. The doctors, nurses and support staff at the CVICU provided exceptional care and support during a most difficult time.
James’ family will receive relatives and friends from 2 – 4 p.m. & 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 12:00 noon followed by a luncheon. Interment at Williamsburg Cemetery, Kitchener, after the luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in loving memory of Jim can be made to St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, REEP Green Solutions Charity or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario (cards available at the funeral home).
When you were born you cried and the world rejoiced.
Live your life in a manner so that when you die,
the world cries and you rejoice.
