Obituary
Heimbecker, James Malo
We are sad to announce that on August 15, 2018 Jim Heimbecker passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, after complications arising from long term illness. Jim was just 52 years old. He was predeceased by his father Robert James Heimbecker in 1982, his mother Carolyn Ann Heimbecker (nee Malo) in 2011, and his grandmother Mary Olive Malo in 1989. He is survived by his brother Robert John Heimbecker (Lisa; nee Childerhose), his nephew James, niece Elly and long-time girlfriend Julie Gage.
Jim was born in Toronto on August 3, 1966. He attended St. Andrews College in Aurora, Ontario and Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia where he excelled in football, hockey and rugby.
Jim was a lover of all things West Coast, splitting his time, together with Julie, between Kitsilano in Vancouver and Roberts Creek on the sunshine coast. They loved to take long walks on the beach with his faithful dog Khuddie. Jim was a voracious reader enjoying the works of John Mortimer, Robertson Davies and Kingsley Amis; he enjoyed chess, cards, golf and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Jim was a generous man who loved to cook and entertain and could always be counted on at Thanksgiving or Christmas or any other special occasion to host “orphans” dinners for all those friends who had no place to go to celebrate. Jim also took great pride and interest in his nephew and niece’s athletic and academic achievements.
Jim’s family wish to thank the staff at both the Sechelt and Lions Gate (ICU) hospitals for their professionalism and compassion during a difficult time. A special thanks to Liz Edgar whose knowledge and support was incredibly helpful.
A celebration of life will be September 28th from 4- 7 p.m. at St. James Community Square, 3214 West 10th St., Vancouver B.C.
Donations can be made to the Sechelt Hospital Foundation in Jim’s memory. www.sechelthospitalfoundation.org.
