Obituary for
James Edward Pounds
Pounds, James Edward
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of James Edward Pounds. James passed away peacefully in his sleep, with his loving wife Stephenie by his side on October 1, 2018, at the age of 76. He leaves behind daughters Jennifer (Doug) Highgate, Stephanie Benninger (Rick Goos), son Anthony (Sarah) Mason, grandchildren Maxwell James Benninger, Sophia Anne Mason and Carly Marie Sweet. Family members include brother William (Betty Anne) Pounds and sister Nancy Pounds, nieces Heather Lysynski (Walter) and Tara Pounds. He will be sadly missed by his wife’s family: Gary (Barbara) Watson, Dalton and Savannah Watson, and Rebecca Watson (Terry Greenaway). James’ career was with Waterloo County Board of Education for over 30 years, initially as a teacher and then a principal in multiple schools and specialized education facilities. He dedicated his life and skills to helping children throughout the education system and he mentored many other educators to reach their greatest potential. James enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an avid golfer, curler and past President of the Galt Curling Club. He completed 8 triathlons and enjoyed dancing the night away with his wife when there was a live band playing. James had the opportunity to travel and explore the world during his 20 years of retirement. He took great pride and pleasure in the heritage home he and Stephenie restored called “La Mancha” – the Impossible Dream. He made that dream a reality and enjoyed many retirement years living at the lake hosting parties, card tournaments and countless family gatherings. James was the epitome of a gentleman. “Happiness is a way of travelling, not a destination.” He lived those words. We wish to express our thanks and deepest gratitude to the CCAC team including Bette, Cindy, Laura, Margot, Rick, Shelley, Pearl and Dr. Tan. Also the marvelous team at the Palliative Care Unit at Grand River Hospital, especially Dr. Junker Anderson and Erin.
James’ family will receive relatives and friends from 10:15 – 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Williamsburg Dedication Centre, 1541 Fischer Hallman Road, Kitchener, (519)741-2880. Funeral service will be held in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the Henry Walser Funeral Home).
