James Burns
It is with heavy hearts that we regret to announce the passing of James Burns on September 7, 2018 at the Un Cala Unit of the CBRH. James was born on Brickyard Road on February 15, 1924 to John M. and Euphemia (MacCuish) Burns and held the honor of being the longest living resident of Brickyard.
He is survived by his daughter, Darlene Burns-Boudreau; son, James Burns Jr. and his wife (Lauren Waterman) of Brickyard; his three grandsons, Vance Boudreau and his wife (Brenda Moulton) Murillo, ON, Richard Burns (Kristen Walker) and first great-grandson Finley James Burns, Juniper Mountain, Ryan Burns, Brickyard Road; sister, Jean (Bill) Miller, Glace Bay.
He was predeceased by his wife, Verlie (Pierre) Burns in 2010; his parents; brothers, Daniel and Robert Burns, Sydney, Neil and Fraser Burns of Brickyard Road; sisters, Lexie Stevenson, Christina Hann and Annie James of Glace Bay, Alma Simm of Portage La Prairie, MB.
James served overseas during the second World War with the Northshore New Brunswick Regiment in Belgium, Holland and Germany. He transferred to the North Nova Scotia Highlanders at wars end and served one year in the occupational army in Northwest Germany. We as his family were honored to watch him and a number of other Veterans receive the Dutch Liberation Medal in 2002.
He worked for the CNR for 34 years, retiring in 1982.
There will be no visitation and private family service per his wishes.
