Obituary for “Jack” Jacobus Gardien
GARDIEN, Jacobus Cornelis (Jack)
Entered into rest on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the West Haldimand Hospital, Hagersville, in his 91st year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret. Loving father of Jeannette Griffiths (Mitch), David (Margaret) and John (Johanna, deceased). Dear Opa to Lee (Vera), Gayle (Jesse), Jonique, Bailey and Jacobus and great Opa to Jack. Son of the late David and Adriana (Vos) Gardien. Brother to Peter (Riet), Tonny Muntslag (Johann, deceased), Cor (Tilly) (Riet, deceased), Jeanne Brabauder (Aad). Predeceased by siblings Luke, Martin, Francine Ryken (John), John and Theo (Alice). Also survived by sister-in-laws Trace and Coby as well as many nieces and nephews. Jack served in Indonesia with the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps from 47 to 49 and was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 154. A special thank you to the Caledonia Seniors Support, the Nurses of CBI Home Health and to the West Haldimand Hospital. Visitation will be held in the Miller Funeral Chapel, Caledonia, on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9p.m. The Service will take place in the chapel on Friday, January 19 at 11 a.m. A private family interment and committal service will be held in St. Patrick’s Cemetery prior to the service. A reception to celebrate Jack’s life will take place in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 154, Caledonia, following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 154, “Roof Fund” would be appreciated by the family.
