BAKER, Irving – On Thursday, November 8, 2018 in his 98th year, died at the Sunnybrook Veteran’s Centre. Beloved husband of the late Helen Baker. Loving father and father-in-law of Mitchell and Joyce Baker, and Jim and Jane Baker. Loving grandfather of Emily, Lauren, Rachel and Adam. Irving graduated from the School of Optometry in 1942 and served as an Optometrist in the Royal Canadian Medical Army Corps in World War 2. After the War, he practiced Optometry for four decades and was the long time Registrar of the College of Optometrists of Ontario. He retired in 1996 after 54 years in the profession and often said “I never worked a day in my life”. Policy maker, clinician, teacher, advocate and family man, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him and whose life was made richer for it. A very special thank you to Michael, Donna and Maricel for their caring and for being there. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Blossom Memorial Park, 66 Brimley Road.
