OBITUARY
Irene Marie Ulveland
After a brief illness, Irene Marie Ulveland (Muzzillo), 86, passed away peacefully in Kelowna General Hospital surrounded
by her loving family on November 1, 2017 – eleven months after losing the love of her life and best friend Clancy.
Her life’s story began on May 24, 1931 in Kamloops, BC. As a young girl, she attended St. Ann’s Academy and Kamloops High School where she made life-long friends. She followed in her Mother and Aunt’s footsteps and became a hairstylist. She spoke fondly of her hairstyling days, particularly her time working at Woodward’s in downtown Vancouver and at the Banff Springs Hotel.
In 1953, she married Clancy. Their marriage, a love story that began when they met at a hockey game a year earlier, would span over 63 years. Together they raised three children and embraced all the joy, adventures and challenges life offered. Wherever Clancy’s work took him, Irene was ready to go. She had a way for making any new space a warm and welcoming home. She was exceptionally organized, gracefully stylish and took pride in her surroundings. Irene and Clancy spent many wonderful years together travelling, skiing, golfing, entertaining and spending time with family. When Clancy slowed down she lovingly cared for him until his passing.
Irene devoted her life to her family; Clancy, her children and five grandchildren were the center of her world. Irene was an involved and supportive mother, always interested in the details and never hesitated to share her opinion. She loved the uniqueness of each grandchild, celebrated their milestones and was very proud of all their accomplishments.
In her later years Irene embraced technology, enough to exchange emails and photos with family and friends. She loved her ladies golf days, going shopping and buying scratch tickets. She never turned down the opportunity for a visit over a cup of coffee.
Irene was as spirited and witty, as she was thoughtful and caring. Despite the various challenges she faced during the years, she remained positive and embraced life. Irene will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
Irene is lovingly remembered by her children Dennis (Patti) Ulveland, Andrea (Patrick) Gold, Brian (Carmen) Ulveland and her grandchildren Kirsten, Marisa, Jada, Tanner and Logan. She is also remembered by her sister-in-law Claire (Albert d.) and her brother-in-law Lorne (Lorraine) Ulveland and her long-time friend Olga (William d.) Giebelhaus. Also by her many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Clancy Ulveland, her parents Antonio and Ernestine Muzzillo and her brother Albert Muzzillo.
The family would like to acknowledge Hawthorne Park Staff for their kindness and caring they showed Irene. They also wish to thank Penny and the golf-gals for their friendship.
In Irene’s words “Bye for now…
