Irene Hazel Evong
April 19, 1931 – December 16, 2018

Evong, Irene Hazel Frances was born April 19, 1931 on the shores of the Bedford Basin to the late William and Catherine Hyland. She was raised in Bedford, then Lakeside. She worked at Sears in Halifax where she met her husband Martin P. Evong. She then worked in CSR, sterile supply at the Victoria General Hospital and then on to medical records.
She raised 3 boys; Marty, Barry and Michael. She was a devout Roman Catholic, working with hospice and giving communion to the sick at the VG Hospital. Irene did master courses in Theology, loved ceramics, knitting and reading. She enjoyed a pilgrimage to the Holy Lands and a special trip to Niagara Falls with her sisters, Ruby, Carol and Jean.
Irene is predeceased by her sons, Marty and Barry; husband, Martin; brothers, Art and Cyril; sisters, Shirley, Viola, Ruby and Vivian as well as her daughter-in-law, Cynthia.
Survived by her son, Michael; daughters-in-law, Colleen and Sherry Evong; grandchildren, Natalie, Robert, Chelsea, Danielle, Yolanda, Mathieu and Joshua; sister, Carol, Jean and June as well as her brother, Forrest.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 20 at 1:15pm at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 5 Bedford Highway, Bedford with reception to follow. Burial will take place at gate of Heaven cemetery, Lower Sackville, NS.
