Obituary for Ingrid Lippert (Griffel)
Ingrid “Ina” Lippert (nee Griffel)
Ingrid passed away from cancer on January 27, 2018 at the age of 77. Born in Bucharest, Romania on July 3, 1940. At age 10, Ingrid moved with her family from Romania to Germany, and then in 1953 they immigrated to Ponoka, Alberta.
In Ponoka, Ingrid began her career in psychiatric nursing. She studied at Ponoka Mental Hospital, and that led to a position at the Calgary General Hospital. In Calgary she met Kurt, and they married in 1963. They lived a comfortable life in their Calgary home raising their two children. Upon retiring, she and Kurt moved to a home on the prairies in Spring Point, AB. There she spent many enjoyable years nurturing her beautiful garden, staying active with the local community, and keeping her mind sharp with crosswords and jigsaw puzzles. Her affinity for socializing with others was well sated when she made the move to her residence in Claresholm. At Cottonwood Village she was surrounded by many friends who revelled in her accordion playing, formal teas, beer and pizza events, sing-a-longs, and the occasional evening shot of something special.
Ingrid had a fearless passion for life, and never hesitated when presented with a new opportunity for adventure. She was first in line for the roller coaster. Her vacations usually took her on roads less travelled. A trip in a hot air balloon was a fine way to start a Sunday. At parties, she would be the one encouraging others to get out on the dance floor. She embraced the joy that life could bring. She considered herself a life-long learner. Her many other interests included photography, lace-knitting, volunteering, and world travel. She became a professional hand writing analyst, was a past Canadian president of the International Graphoanalysis Society and taught graphology through the Chinook Learning Centre. During her last months at Foothills Country Hospice she developed a new skill of oil painting.
Ingrid was preceded in death by her husband Kurt, her parents Rob and Ida, and her grandson, Matthew. She is survived by her sister Karyn, brother Gunther (Pat), son Michael(Tracey), daughter Susan (Darrell), granddaughter Sarah, and many loving nieces and nephews. She brought love to many people, and we will miss her dearly.
We would like to thank the Foothills Country Hospice for the exceptional end of life care and compassion they gave Ingrid. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Foothills Country Hospice.
A Celebration of Life will be held in March (date to be determined). To view and share photos, condolences and stories of Ingrid, please visit www.choicememorial.com. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Choice Memorial Cremation & Funeral Services (403) 277-7343.
