Ina Viola Sponagle, RN – Truro, passed away
peacefully on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Colchester East Hants
Health Centre, Truro. Ina was born in January 1919 in Goldenville,
Guysborough County, and was a daughter of the late James Augustus and
Alberta (Nickerson) Sponagle.
Born into a large family, she was predeceased by her
brothers, Byron, Sheet Harbour; Edwin, Goldenville; Lester, Halifax;
Morton, Liverpool; sisters, Alberta Smith, Goshen; Doris Hudson,
Country Harbour; Irene McDonald, Halifax. Ina will be lovingly
remembered by her sisters, Olive Christianson, Bible Hill; Mabel
Walker, Truro; brothers, Harold (wife, Eileen), Halifax; Robert,
Moncton, New Brunswick; many nieces and nephews.
A graduate of St. Martha’s School of Nursing in
Antigonish, Ina began nursing in Antigonish and Bridgewater, and then
went on to enjoy a long and successful career in Montreal. In 1996 she
retired to Nova Scotia to be near family, first living in Halifax for
16 years and then at Maplewood Park in Bible Hill.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where a memorial service
will be held in her honour on Tuesday, October 16 at 1 p.m. Reception
will follow. Private interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery,
Sherbrooke, Guysborough County. If so desired, donations in
Ina’s memory to Palliative Care Unit (CEHHC) are welcome.
