EINARSON, Howard George H. (Hank).- Dartmouth- It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Howard George Einarson on December 8, 2018 in Camp Hill after a short illness. He was the son of the late Florence and Einar Einarson of Bracebridge Ontario. He completed his schooling in Ontario before working in Burk’s Falls and Sudbury, from where he proudly served his country by joining the Royal Canadian Navy in 1952. He served in Korea during the Korean War for which he was awarded the Korean War Medal. He was highly decorated for his service to his country. He retired from the Navy in 1972 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer 1st Class, after which he worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia as a Property Manager. He joined Somme Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion in 1972 and was very active on the Executive Council. He gave generously and tirelessly of his time to ensure the needs of Veterans and their families were met. He became a Life Member in 2010. In 2013 he was awarded the Ambassador For Peace Medal from the President of South Korea. In 2015 he was awarded the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation and in 2017 the Meritorious Service Medal for his many years of service helping Veterans and his outstanding devotion to the aims and objectives of the Legion. He enjoyed many sports, but by his own admission, excelled at none. He enjoyed the comradeship of bowling, horseshoes and darts. He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Wade) Hoople Barrie Ontario, grandchildren, Meghan (Christopher) Mio, Kathleen, Daniel and Bennett (Hoople); MacKenzie and Abigail (Einarson) Dartmouth, his sister Wenonah Finkbeiner (Guelph, Ontario), sister-in-law Margaret (Cyril) Boudreau of Halifax, numerous nieces and nephews, and very good friend, Betty Preeper of Eastern Passage. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years Jean (O’Brien), son Bernard, brothers, Ivan, Stanley, Bernard and sisters Sylvia and Beatrice. Visitation will take place Tuesday December 11, 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 at the Dartmouth Funeral Home 29 Queen Street, Dartmouth and funeral mass on Wednesday December 12 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Clements Church 16 Gaston Road, Dartmouth. Burial to take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery following the funeral. Family flowers only; In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Poppy Fund.
