Lovingly Remembered
Herbert Spiegelberg, beloved husband of Ida E. Spiegelberg of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre on Monday, April 30, 2018 at the age of 77 years.
Herbert Spiegelberg was born in Insel, Germany on May 10, 1940 immigrating to Canada in 1953. He made the crossing with his family aboard the M.S. Beaverbrae landing in Quebec City on his 13th birthday. Upon entry into Canada, the Spiegelberg family settled in the Lethbridge area. As a young man, Herb worked as a ranch hand, on the family farm, CP Rail and the Shaughnessy Mines in Lethbridge.
In 1961 Herb’s life changed forever when he met the love of his life, Ida Sonnenberg. Their relationship flourished marrying on July 14th, 1962 and having their first child Barbara in 1964. 1965 brought a move to Calgary for Herb’s family where their second child Frank was born in 1968. Herb worked construction and for Firestone before he found his passion for driving truck, landing a job driving for the City of Calgary. In 1975 Herb took his passion for trucking to the next level establishing Herb’s Trucking Limited. He remained in the trucking industry until he retired. Herb loved his family dearly, experiencing great pride and excitement as his family grew with each marriage and birth. He also enjoyed socializing and was a committed and dedicated friend to many. Herb had been a member of Steel Scouts and was an active member of the Austrian–Canadian Club and the Slovenian-Canadian Club. Although Herb enjoyed spending time with family and socializing with friends, he also had a passion for horseback riding, hunting and improving his marksmanship.
Besides his loving wife Ida, Herbert will be lovingly remembered by his children Barbara (Troy) of Terrace, BC and Frank (Susan) of Wasaga Beach, ON, and three grandchildren Jason (Victoria), Jacey and Keefer. He will also be remembered by his sister Christel of Lethbridge, AB, sister Trautie of Prince Albert, SK, brother-in-law Helmut of Calgary, sister-in-law Erna of Coaldale, AB, sister-in-law Maria of Calgary and many nieces, nephews and friends. Herbert was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Lisbeth of Lethbridge, AB, mother-in-law Olga of Coaldale, AB and brother Horst.
A Funeral Service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home, (1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation prior to the Service starting at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
