OBITUARY
Henry “Arnold” Trask
May 17, 1920 – August 30, 2018
Trask, H. Arnold of Digby, passed away at the age of 98, on Thursday, August 30, 2018 in Tideview Terrace, Conway, Digby Co. Born in Digby on May 17, 1920, he was a son of the late Henry Titus and Margaret “Maggie” Adeliza (Turnbull) Trask of Digby.
Arnold loved the outdoors, gardening , hunting , and fishing with his friends. He started working summers and part time the rest of the year with Mr. Harris at Racquette Gardens at the age of ten until the age of eighteen when he went on to work for Fritz Dakin Hardware.
He joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in 1941. He served overseas in Scotland , the Mediterranean during the invasion of North Africa on the Corvette HMCS Prescott and later in the North Atlantic doing convoy duty on the Corvette HMCS Brantford. After being discharged from the Navy in 1945, he was employed with the Digby County Power for over eleven years. In 1956 he joined the firm of Harris and Roome Ltd., Halifax, as a salesman in the Valley and South Shore areas until his retirement in 1985. He was the oldest member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #20, Digby and a member of the Grace United Church of Canada, Digby.
Arnold spent his last five years at Tideview Terrace , Conway where he loved the nightly card games, , competitive Wii-Bowling, and enriched the lives of staff and residents alike. He enjoyed being a part of their lives, offering wisdom, advise, a listening ear, and a kind word.
Arnold was on the Board of Directors and Finance Committee for Tideview Terrace and had just started his third term with the Board.
He is survived by his daughters Rebecca McVeigh, Grafton, Ont. Karen (Ben) Cleveland, Digby; grandchildren Ian, and Adam Ogilvie, Patrick and Michael McVeigh, Bethany and Sarah Cleveland, great grandchildren Kaylin, Devon and Tristan, as well as many nieces and nephews. Arnold was blessed with two special friends in his later years, Ruth Wright and Mary Amero, who both predeceased him.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred (Rafuse) of fifty six years, his eldest daughter Marcia Lee Trask, brothers Lister, Harold (Jake) and Ivan, sisters Marjorie (Denton), Marion (Weir), and son in law Frank McVeigh.
Visitation will be 6-8pm , Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St. Digby (902-245-2525).Cremation has taken place under the care of Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby. A memorial service followed by a Legion Tribute Service will be 2pm Sunday, September 9, from Grace United Church, Digby. Rev. Alex Constable will officiate with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Digby.
