Hendrika (Henny) Wilhelmina Donkersteeg (née Rietveld)
January 5, 1937-June 24, 2018
Born in Utrecht, the Netherlands, as the eldest child of the late Arie Rietveld and the late Wilhelmina Rietveld (née van Leeuwen). She was an excellent student, completing her high school in 1954, and successfully graduating with a Diploma of Analyst from the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society for scientific chemical research in 1958. During her post-secondary studies, she began to work at the Institute for Organic Chemistry T.N.O. in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and continued as chief technical assistant until her immigration to Ontario, Canada, in 1961. In Canada, she worked at Brockville Chemicals, and briefly in Ottawa and Prescott. During this time, she met Eduard Donkersteeg and they married in Brockville on June 8, 1963. Together, they bought a farm in Ventnor, farming for 35 years, dairy farming in the early years and later as egg producers. Gone to be with her Lord and Saviour, Henny passed away peacefully at Brockville General Hospital. Beloved wife of Eduard Donkersteeg. Loving mother to Joanne (Edward) Hosmar, Eveline (Clarence) DeSchiffart, Edward (Angela) Donkersteeg. Oma to Michael Hosmar, Rachel Donkersteeg and Courtney Donkersteeg. Sister to the late Corry (the late Hank) Kelderman, Ineke (Fred) Bosman, Gert (Jenny) Rietveld and the late Ad Rietveld. Tante to nieces and nephews in the Netherlands and Canada. Henny will be remembered for her devout faith, her love of music, and her gifts of service to many Christian organizations.
