Harriet Barclay Angiers
December 3, 1924 – June 2, 2018
ANGIERS, Harriet (nee Cameron)
Harriet passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on June 2, 2018 at Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Village in St. Catharines at the age of 93. Beloved wife for 67 years of the late Ross Angiers (2013), it is comforting to believe that Harriet and Ross are together again, driving the big Zamboni in the sky and fishing for Muskie. Loving Mom to Lynda (Vince) Purpura, Janet Peterson, Bob Angiers, and Violet Wilkinson. Proud Nana of Kristen (Tino Sion) Purpura, Kelly Purpura, Alison (Alex) Scott, Amy (Duane Smith) LoBosco, Jodi Healey, and Matt Healey. Devoted Great-Nana of Wesley, Morgan, Alex, Mackenzie, Matthew, and Owen. Loving sister of Ian (the late Joan) Cameron. Fondly remembered by her niece, Tracey (Bill) Taylor, and nephew, Gord (Nancy) Cameron, and their families. Predeceased
by her parents, Robert and Mary (nee Paisley), and her brother, Jim.
Harriet was born on December 3, 1945 and raised in Niagara Falls. She joined the CWAC (Canadian Women’s Army Corps) in January 1943 and served in the Dental Corps until December 1945. Harriet met Ross at a dance in Niagara Falls and so began her romance with the handsome young soldier from Coboconk. Married in October 1945, Harriet and Ross settled in Niagara Falls and raised their family. In 2006, they moved to Ina Grafton to be closer to family. During their years together, they loved fishing at Buckhorn. Harriet was proud of her prize Muskie that was mounted to hang beside Ross’s Muskie. Together they travelled, visited many casinos, and enjoyed the horse races at Fort Erie, which always included a trip to Betty’s in Chippawa for fish ‘n chips and lemon pie. Harriet loved cats and butterflies, playing bingo and euchre, and made her last visit to the Niagara Falls Casino with her daughter, Janet, in March of this year.
Many thanks to the patient and caring Long-Term Care staff at Ina Grafton who quickly learned that Harriet loved to sleep in, drink ‘hot’ coffee from a china cup, and eat ‘crunchy’ cookies. She always had to have her earrings on before she left her room and enjoyed having her nails polished (preferably green). Harriet never lost her sense of humour, and the back and forth joking with staff was lively. She would frequently say before going to an event at Ina Grafton, ‘Do you think I’ll meet a millionaire?’
Harriet will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Harriet’s Life will be held in the auditorium at Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Village, 413 Linwell Road, St. Catharines on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to the Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Foundation, Community Living Welland Pelham, or a charity of one’s choice.
