Harold McLaren
Harold (Harry) Donald Joseph McLaren –
Passed away suddenly at the Kingston General Hospital Cardiac Sciences Unit on June 25, 2018. He will be forever missed by his loving wife Shirley (Johnston) McLaren of Belleville and by his dear son Robert McLaren of Harcourt Ontario. He will always be remembered by his grandsons T.J. McLaren and Brandon McLaren, his daughter- in- law Susan and his daughter- in- law Lee-Anne. There are so many cousins who will always remember his wonderful sense of humour and his positive attitude. They include Connie (Bill) Davidson and their family; Howard (Rita) Garvey; Doug Garvey and multiple Dedrick cousins in the Port Rowan area.
He was known as Harry by his extended family and will be sadly missed by his sister-in-law Jessie (Mrs. Don) Dixon and his nieces and nephews including Sandra (Dennis) Lennox, Terry (Sylvia) Dixon, Tim (Kim) Dixon, Paul Dixon, Mark Dixon and Sharon Cahill.
He has many other members of the extended family and many friends who were valued by Harry for their friendship and their love. Harry’s faith carried him throughout his illnesses and he expressed his appreciation to those who cared for him and who prayed for him. There was always a “Thank You” for everyone around him.
Harry made many friends in his work life, having experienced employment in many interesting fields. Harry worked as a bridge master and canal man on the Rideau Canal in Merrickville and also at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in security. He and his wife owned and operated Cedar Creek Store at Brighton in the ‘80s. He worked as a rural mail courier in Stirling and in Campbellford, Ontario and later served as a councillor in the Town of Campbellford. While in Campbellford, he also drove the Venture Van to transport persons with disabilities. In Brighton, he served on the Police Services Board. He maintained an interest in cars, politics and security throughout his life.
Visitation will be held at the BELLEVILLE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL LTD. 68 N. Front St. Belleville (613-968-5080) on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel on Thursday, June 28th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. (with visitation one hour prior from 10-11 a.m.). Rev. Phil Hobbs officiating. Reception to follow. Interment Belleville Cemetery. Donations may be made to Bridge Street United Church or to a charity of your choice in his memory.
