Harold Bird 2018

Obituary Overview
Harold Bird
With family by his side, Harold passed away on Sat. April 28, 2018, one week shy of his 92nd birthday. He was born to Lawrence and Marjorie Bird in Foxwarren, MB on May 5, 1926, and was the second eldest of 4 children. The family moved to Hawarden, SK shortly after.
Living through the Depression and working alongside his dad as a young boy at the Monarch Lumber Company, instilled in Harold the values of hard work, honesty, fairness, devotion to country, and the importance of education. He was an avid learner, but understood his goal of an education would be difficult. During WWII, he enlisted and served with the RCAF and the Canadian Army and managed to save for tuition to the U of S. He graduated with a degree in civil engineering in 1951. Harold then met his beloved wife, Georgina Robinson, while both were employed with the SK Dept. of Highways. They married on Aug. 25, 1951. In 1964, after a few moves through the province, Harold accepted the position of District Engineer for the Saskatoon District of the Dept. of Highways. He served in that position until his retirement in 1984. Georgina passed away in 1991.
A couple years later, Harold found new happiness and married Irene Kirkland. Harold’s dedication to family and learning filled his retirement days with activities and projects. His quick wit and kindness made him enjoyable to all. Harold had been in failing physical health for the last years of his life. Age had wearied him. Now he is at peace. We will remember him and we will cherish our good memories of him.
Harold is predeceased by his parents; sisters, Betty and Rhoda; wife, Georgina; and niece, Jane. He is survived by his second wife, Irene; sons, Doug (Rosa) and Bruce (Linda); sister, Barbara; granddaughters and great granddaughters.
At Harold’s request, there will be no funeral.
