H. James “Jim” Plant
Jim passed away Monday August 27, 2018. Truly devoted to his family, his wife Sherrie, daughters, Marilyn (Andrew Burans), Barbara (Graham Clarke) and Shirley (Charles Titley), grandchildren Christopher Burans (Lori), Jamie Burans (Stephanie), Shawn Clarke (Karol Anne Canuel), Stephanie Clarke (Jeff Sevenson), great grandchildren Brayden, Blakely and Noah Burans, step-sons Paul Herriot (Sandra), Robert Herriot (Lisa) and step grandchildren Maia and Ella Jean Herriot. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephew, Gail Dawson, Keith Dawson and Carol Anderson. Predeceased by his father Herbert A. his mother Gladys L. Plant and his sister Isabel.
Born in Ottawa, Jim was President of Plant & Anderson Ltd. and Vice President of Marsh & McLennan Ltd. He served on the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Board of Trade, was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa and of The Royal Ottawa Golf Club. He was the Past President of the Laurentian Club Inc. Jim was an avid outdoorsman enjoying golf, hunting and fishing. Keenly interested in wildlife and conservation he helped establish and was a Charter Member and Secretary of the Ottawa Carleton Conservation Centre Inc. and Log Farm.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Richmond Road), Ottawa on Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 2 – 4:30p.m. and 6 – 8:00p.m. and after 10:00a.m. on Sunday. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapel on Sunday, September 2nd at 11:00a.m. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario would be appreciated.
