Obituary for Gordon “Al” Allister Spas
Sept. 30, 1933 – Dec. 14, 2018
SPAS, Gordon Allister passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at St. Lawrence Lodge in Brockville, Ont. on December 14, 2018. Beloved husband of Rosemarie for 63 years. Loving father of Michael (Susan), Mark (Peggy), and Lisa Cree (John) all of Brockville. Al was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Haystead of Brockville; his mother, Florence, of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia; and his father, Louis Spas, who was born in Northern France and came to Canada as a small boy. He leaves five grandchildren; Alexa Spas of Australia, Leah Spas of Ottawa, Luke Cree of Kingston, Garret Cree of Toronto, and Liam Cree of Australia. He loved to sit and chat with his grandchildren about his beliefs and his life as a child.
Al came to Brockville from Glace Bay in the early 50s and spent 30 years as a meat cutter and manager at the Prescott I.G.A. Al and Rosemarie spent their winters in Florida for the past 25 years until his stroke 2 years ago. He loved jamming on his guitar and playing the harmonica. He was also an avid dart player on Friday afternoons at the Legion. Al loved his family and was proud of his childrens’ accomplishments. He will be missed for his wit and one liners.
There will be a celebration of life for Al on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Royal Canadian Legion Br.96, 180 Park St., Brockville, starting at 2 pm. Arrangements are entrusted to Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James St. E., Brockville. Thank you to the staff at St. Lawrence Lodge for taking care of Al, especially during his passing. Donations to the St. Lawrence Lodge in memory of Al would be greatly appreciated.
“Until we meet again”.
