Obituary for Gord Henderson
HENDERSON, Donald Gordon “Gordie” passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Trillium Villa after a brief illness. Gord was 82 years old and born in Oil Springs on May 30, 1935. He was the youngest son of the late Mary Ellen (nee Graham) and Harry Henderson. Predeceased by brothers Irving, John and Gene Henderson, sisters Marguerite Douglas, Alice Blackstock and Marion (age 7). Survived by his nieces, Anne Douglas, Nancy McCabe, Sue Dunn, Paula Jude, Joy Seibutis, Sheri Boles and Janet Blackstock, and nephews, Scott Henderson, Kent Henderson, Bob Douglas and Jim Blackstock. Gord was a free spirited, slightly stubborn man who lived in Oil Springs most of his life with his brother Irv. After Irv passed away in March, 1997, Gord relocated to Petrolia and then later to Sarnia. Gord knew that life was short so he took advantage of every opportunity. He touched many lives, was a story teller who loved to laugh, and he always wore a smile. He was well known in Oil Springs and spent much of his time talking to others, and had endless memories of the good people there. Gord loved when the ladies would make a fuss over him. He had a certain charm to tease his nieces and nephews. As he moved along in life he lived in Petrolia at the Lambtonian Apartments then at the Vidal Street Homestead in Sarnia where he received outstanding care for over 10 years. As he grew older he moved to Trillium Villa in January of 2014. Words alone cannot describe the supreme care and compassion that he received while living at Trillium Villa right to his final day. Gord says a final “Thank You” to everyone at Trillium Villa for that. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at the Needham-Jay Funeral Home, 4059 Petrolia Line, Petrolia, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. As per Gord’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will be in Oil Springs Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sarnia Lambton (sarnia.bigbrothersbigsisters.ca) or St. Joseph’s Hospice (www.stjosephshospice.ca).
