Obituary Overview
Geraldine Marjorie Dora Bertin
July 26, 1940 ~ December 10, 2018
We are very sad to announce the passing of Geraldine Marjorie Dora Bertin on December 10, 2018. Gerri was born at home on Russell Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia to Marjorie (nee Turple) and Jason Shaw on July 26, 1940. She was the second oldest of ten children.
Although born in Halifax, Gerri and her ever increasing family lived in many beautiful areas of the Maritime Provinces starting her own family in Drury Cove, NB. Gerri’s creativity revealed in sewing, making Mountie suits for her three boys, gardening, growing veggies and fruit for canning, knitting and crocheting, mittens, hats and clothing for “preemies” and her lovely “Mona Lisa”. Gerri seemed to be always on the go, raising “meat kings” or meal worms, changing every room in the house, poor Jim never knew where his favourite chair was going to be, building doll houses, taking her GED and computer courses. Gerri and Kim travelled often from Barnesville in New Brunswick to the Valley in Nova Scotia. They would stop to picnic by the river near Amherst, her favourite spot.
Gerri moved “upstairs” to join her mom and dad, her dear Jim, brothers, Gerald, Colin, Tim and Victor, the father of her children. We believe that reunion will be filled with love, laughter and music. For the rest of us we are sad to see her leave… Brother Bob and Linda, of Prince George wished her Godspeed over the phone, sister, Maralyn and Lennie of Thunder Bay, sister, Beverly of Oshawa, sister, Sylvia of New Minas, brother, Jason of Kinsac and baby sister, Lorna of Scots Bay.
Staying behind Gerri’s children, daughter, Kim and her husband John of St. Margarets Bay, sons, Victor Wayne and Brian Brett of Saint John; Marjorie Ann (Mardie) and Dave of Sydney, CB and son, Glenn Charles and Debbie of Barnsville, NB; grandchildren, Jay (Victoria), Mary Margaret, Tim (Alexis), Michelle (Mitchell), Daniel (Megan) and Lisa Rianne (Jack); great grandchildren, Taylor, Danica, Silas and baby Fenwick. Gerri’s best friend, June of Saint John, NB.
Just last week John and Kim decorated, at Gerri’s direction of course, for Christmas. What a fun day we had, laughing at “ugly baby” and Jim’s Santa hat! Our last night together was sweet and quiet. Kim sang Christmas songs and country songs from long ago. John and Jason and Kim kept watch until 7 am when Gerri left us to join the angel.
Thank you to Rev. Tom Henderson for his prayers and the staff at the Windsor Elms and Hants Community Hospital for the care and support. Thank you to Lorna, Sylvia and Jason for the fun visits and shared love. Today we will pack up our gear and move you one last time. I miss you so terribly, mom!
