Locke, Gerald Burditt “Bud”
Age 85 passed away on December 21, 2018, in Halifax.
Born in Yarmouth, he was the son of the late Austin and Muriel (Durkee) Locke. He graduated from the Maritime College of Pharmacy, Dalhousie University in 1958, and was employed in community pharmacy practices in Halifax and Yarmouth until 1979. Bud served as President of Nova Scotia Pharmaceutical Society. He was appointed Registrar-Inspector for the College until 1991, returning to community pharmacy practice.
He served as Secretary of the Board of Pharmacy Examiners of Nova Scotia; Past Chairman of the Conference of Pharmacy Registrars of Canada; Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Academy of the History of Pharmacy, Secretary of the Council of Delegates and the Board of Directors of the Canadian Pharmacists Association, member of the Residential Tenancies Board of Halifax and County West. He served on the Parish Councils of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Birch Cove, and Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Yarmouth. Bud was a member of Phi Delta Fraternity and a Part Master of Fairview Lodge #126, GRNS, Halifax.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Nancy (MacRobert) Locke and his sister, Jean Southern. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Roland) Geissler, Delaware; son, Gerald (Dr. Catrine Tudor-Locke), Massachusetts, and grandchildren, Claudia and Paul Geissler, several nieces and nephews.
Bud loved his 46 years of practice in his chosen field and wanted to thank all his associates in the field with whom he worked. In retirement at Cameron Hall, Clayton Park, Bud enjoyed the many special friends he made and his pleasure playing Bridge, pool, Cribbage, poker and enjoying classical music. He will be sincerely missed.
A celebration of Bud’s Life will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018, at 10 am, following a Masonic Service at 9:30 am to which all are invited, both at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Reverend Elliott Siteman officiating.
