Obituary of George MacKay
George William MacKay, age 87, Westville, formerly of Central West River, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Millbrook, he was a son of the late Ira and Georgina (Watters) MacKay.
George took a great interest in horses since his boyhood where he started working in the woods. He later went on to work in lumbering, sawmills and construction. His family gatherings were his greatest enjoyment.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Margaret “Bunny” (MacLeod); son Doug (Irene), New Glasgow; daughter, Cheryl “Sherri” MacIntyre (John), Port Hood; grandchildren, Lindsay Bray (Shone), Pictou, Dayna Holmes (Tim), Halifax, Shane MacKay (Tisha), Edmonton, Marina MacIntyre, Port Hood, Taylor MacIntyre, Antigonish; and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters in law Ada MacKay, Riverton, Dawn MacLeod, New Glasgow, brothers-in-law, Milford MacLeod (Judy), Mississauga; Sheldon MacLeod, Pictou; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by son Donnie; sisters Eileen MacKenzie and Donalda Hogg and brothers Harold and Tom MacKay.
George is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Bonnie Langille officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Gairloch. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Pictou County S.P.C.A.
