George Samuel “Bud” Willcocks
Mr. George Willcocks, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Barbara Willcocks, of Medicine Hat, passed away on September 10, 2018 at the age of 93 years. George leaves to cherish his memory his three sons, Paul Willcocks (Jody Paterson) of Victoria, John Willcocks of Medicine Hat, and Timothy Willcocks of Vancouver; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Gary) Todd of Gainesville, Fla., Sam Willcocks of Vancouver, Chelsea Tinnion of Montreal, Susan Willcocks of Montreal and Katherine Willcocks of Chertsey, Quebec; and two great grandchildren, Cerys and Dylan Todd. George was predeceased by one son, Mark Willcocks; his parents, Samuel and Louisa “Cissy” Willcocks; his brother Eric Willcocks; and sister Margaret Abbott (nee Willcocks). George was born in Toronto on April 27, 1925. He served as a pilot in the RCAF from 1943 to 1945. He met and then married Barbara Jones on September 9, 1950 in Toronto. After living briefly in Montreal and Calgary, they moved to Medicine Hat in 1986, where George was the publisher of the Medicine Hat News. When he retired in 1990, George was an active volunteer in the community, working with the Medicine Hat Stampede and Exhibition for many years, and was a lifelong honorary member of the board of directors. A memorial celebration will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. David J. Carter officiating. Memorial gifts in George’s name may be made to Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter (Phoenix Safe House), P.O. Box 2500, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 8G8.
