Obituary for
George Hucker
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Thomas ‘George’ Hucker in Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the age of 75 years. George was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario on February 18, 1943 to parents, Thomas John and Blanche (Johnson) Hucker. He was a passionate Railroader thoughout his life. In 1966, George joined the Canadian Pacific Railway, as a Yardman, in Thunder Bay, Ontario. During his venture with CP Rail, he was also a Locomotive Engineer, prior to joining the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineering Union, Division 243, as a Local Chairman. From there, he continued to represent his fellow brothers and sisters in the railways through various positions within the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineer Union. In the later years of his career, he was a part of the formation of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) and was named the first TCRC Vice-President and Legislative Director – a position that he held until his retirement in 2006. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family where he would regale all the stories of the railway and his many travels throughout the years. There was always a story to be told and learning to be shared. George was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Lois Hall and a nephew, Michael Hall. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Anne and Katherine, sons-in-law, Kevin Hrysak, Kris Meery and granddaughters, Victoria and Abigail. A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at later date in the Spring of 2019.
