George will be lovingly remembered by his wife Loretta; his children: Gwen (Gordon) of Prince Albert, SK, George of Calgary, and Pamela (Darlene) of Calgary; his grandchildren: Scott (Denise) and Darren of Prince Albert, SK, Kayla, Amanda (Peter) and Jesse of Strathmore, AB; his great grandchildren: Keiran and Brenna of Edmonton, AB, Tanya, Tasha, Kaydence and Lochlan of Prince Albert, SK, and William of Strathmore, AB; and his great-great grandchildren: Nash, Oakley and Brax of a Prince Albert, SK. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Addy Armstrong of Winnipeg, MB, and Joan Armstrong of Nanoose Bay, BC. George is predeceased by his siblings: Dorothy, Edwin, Glen, and Robert; his son Dan; and grandson Duane.
In Winnipeg, he enjoyed being a taxi driver, a driver salesman for Orange Crush and Coca Cola and working for CPR and CNR Express. George moved to Calgary in 1969 and with his brother-in-law (Chris Nechka), started C&G Carpet floor covering business. He retired from Old Dutch Foods where he worked as driver salesman for 10 years. George loved visiting with family and friends while sipping on his beer, as well as gardening and bird watching. Family pets (Sam, Curly, Morris, Rosie and Ben) were always special to him, as well as his numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. We will miss George’s sense of humour and the twinkle in his eyes. “STAY OUT” was one of his favourite sayings.
Our sincerest gratitude to home support workers and to the staff at Dulcina Hospice for their compassionate care of George and his family.
A Memorial Service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home (Prairie Chapel 1605 – 100 St. SE, Calgary) on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
