Obituary Overview
Gene Alan Tapscott
Tapscott, Gene Alan “Nip” “Papa Geno”, 81, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2018 in the QEII Halifax Infirmary.
Born in Weston, Ontario, he was a son of the late William and Jean (McLean) Tapscott.
Gene served as a weapons tech with the Royal Canadian Navy for 33 years.
Following retirement, he served in the Reserves with the Submarine Squadron for another 3 years. He enjoyed golfing, camping and volunteering with First Baptist Church, Dartmouth and at Oakwood Terrace.
He loved dancing, travelling and sharing stories with family and friends.
Gene is survived by his daughters, Sherlyn (Darrell) Tibbel, Michelle Tapscott, Melissa (Shane) Gaunt, Cindy MacDonald (Ainsley), Judy Young (Rob); son, Michael (Yvonne ) Young; grandchildren, Vanessa (Tonya), Adam, Amanda (Cory) Robert, Shasta Lee and 5 great-grandchildren and his first wife Shirley Adams.
He is also survived by his brother Don (Gail) Tapscott; sister-in-law Ann Tapscott and many nieces and nephews.
Gene was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Wheeler-Tapscott in 2013; siblings, Bob, Glen (Jean) and Marion (“Webb”) Long.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Wednesday March 28th in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St. The funeral service will take place at 2pm on Thursday March 29 in the funeral home chapel, Rev. David Watt officiating, with a reception to follow. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
